Our mission is to raise the status of our built heritage, the design, character, quality and style, as well as promote the value of working with existing builds.

ABOUT

Designing the past is a contemporary design blog for period architecture and design.
We’re here to ensure our built heritage survives the future with a considered approach and the respect it deserves.

We aim to inspire, educate and challenge opinions around our built environment trends.

While a lot of our suburban & period offerings may not be seen as special, they are filled with opportunities. We believe they are underestimated and worth working with, not against.
To bring a period house and existing build into the future, to suit individual needs and tastes, isn’t straightforward. We want to make this easier to navigate!
While knock down rebuilds are increasingly popular, they aren’t the answer to achieving the quality of living we all desire - nor is it sustainably viable.
We want people to be proud of the story their home tells and find a balance for history and contemporary living.

Help us promote and connect those who are on the same page. Specialist services; suppliers; advocates; enthusiasts and anyone dedicated to respectfully maintaining our design and architectural history.

If you’re nodding along, we would love to hear from you! Get in touch or sign up to the mailing list to join our community.
